Original muffler?
« on: September 30, 2024, 10:07:37 PM »
Just purchased a '69 R code.  While crawling around underneath it I was surprised to find what appears to be the original exhaust system (or one that looks like the original to a big-block newbie). The pipes have resonators in them and the muffler looks like it has C9ZZCR on the back middle, under it is 6266 and then H1J.  The very bottom of the muffler has the word "Inlet" stamped into the housing.   Curious if anyone can provide some insight.  Thanks in advance!

It reads like a repro replacement. That is not a big surprise as that transverse muffler didn't stand up well to the elements or the exhaust environment with its thin sheet metal skin . The resonators held up better because they were aluminized steel. Here is a picture of what a assemblyline transverse muffler looks like for your car. Scott Fuller has made them exact. You can look on his website for pictures of other aspects of your exhaust to see how it compares the made to look original exhaust Scott sells.
