Air Breather Elbow
« on: September 04, 2024, 10:28:30 PM »
I have seen it blue.
I have seen it black.
I see most are black.
I see top cars with Gold honors at top shows with big names judging with black ones.
What do the judging rules say?
Are both correct?
I see some of the big names in our hobby finishing cars with black and blue.
Any thoughts?

OK back to the basics

When was your car built/assembled?

Not that it might make a difference which engine did your car come with?

What plant was the car built at. Since different plants used (sometimes) different suppliers or subcontractors its possible that this detail is one of those differences. Don't know anyone that has considered this and dome a study but maybe worth a look.

Did you happen to take a look at the similar unrestored examples in that section of the site.

If your looking for what was original  remember it may be different than some specific judges is looking for at some show. But with documentation and an open mind on the judge or judges part you should still prevail

Get back and we can focus on the right or best answer

Are you asking about the air breather elbow that is on the front of the air cleaner assembly?  I believe that should be painted blue with the air cleaner assembly.
The other elbow thats on the oil filler cap is black and unpainted...but dont think your asking about that.

Sorry thought I had ear marked this tread to get back and I dropped the ball.

Below you will find a collection of pictures of unrestored cars.  Not to confuse things, but it likely will I included one with a steel elbow as I've found a couple of cars from the same production period with them but that should be a rabbit hole we can go down in a different thread if need be
