Topic: Newcomer introduction and first question - 67 Bumpers

Hello, I'm leonard, new here. I'm currently restoring a 67 from 1978 that my uncle left behind. I need to replace the front and rear bumpers on the car and my friend has a set from a 68.

I want to know if I can salvage the set from the 68 or do I need to buy the original. I'm a inexperienced person so everyone's advice is very useful to me. Glad to join this community.

First welcome to the site.

67 and 68 bumpers are the same, only the date codes are different. As far as fitment goes you will be fine.

Just look at people's various signature lines and insert some of the details from your car. It's really helpful so we don't have to ask each time.
Also, your signature should state your intentions with the car. Concours has a few different classes.
Or perhaps you simply want a nice weekend driver. Tells us in your signature.

Since this is a concours site, we will mostly answer with the correct concours answer. In this case that means you should keep the 67 bumpers and have them restored since they date-match the car.
It is very expensive to chrome bumpers with my last set being around $1,500 for the pair.

As Marti said, the 68 bumpers are identical. If you have plans for a really good restoration later be sure to keep the originals in the attic.

Agree with the comments above. All depends on how far you want to go with your restoration - numbers matching or not. In general you will find that original parts fit and look much better (in many cases) or in the case they don't they look more original. Going to move your post since it has little to do as an introduction and is more focused on the question
