Casting dates?
« on: July 07, 2024, 08:25:58 PM »
I purchased a fastback, 6R09A10605_. This is a 4 Speed car. The date on the door tag is 10J.  I have questions on casting numbers. For example is the intake supposed to be a C60E or a C5AE? And should the Autolite carb be C5ZF (5ZF) or C6ZF (6ZF) on the toe tag? Since the car was built in 1965 as a 1966 model, are all casting number supposed to be C6 or are some possibly C5?

Thank you all!

Your scheduled date is September 10th (I have two SJ Oct scheduled Mustangs). Depending on the DSO, the carburetor should be a C6ZF-A (no smog) or a C6ZF-D (Cal smog - DSO 71 and 72) for 4 speed transmissions. The intake should be a C6OE as well, but check the engine block casting number and casting date "hidden" behind the starter. Then you can do more detective work.
Jim
Note: Corrected carburetor part number from C5ZF-D (Cal smog-) to C6ZF-D (Cal smog -).

Thank you Jim. I will do that as soon as I get the car home. The DSO is 72, San Jose. Should the intake manifold have the hole in the rear of the intake for the hose?

Yes there would be a thread port at the rear of the intake for power brake or vacuum fitting attachment if needed

Not certain if this is a 65 or 66 intake but its a fairly clear shot

On a 66 with the C6 intake - 6R1590xx  Sorry plenty of options and things going on in the space
