1969 Power Windows??
« on: July 07, 2024, 07:54:04 PM »
Ok, dumb question of the day. Were Power Windows available in 1969 for the Mustang??
I'm trying to see if some of the components are the same for the Cougar but can't locate any diagrams or information.
Am I overlooking something here?
Maybe the 100+ temps we have going on here in the PNW are affecting my brain.
Thanks!!

Power windows did not become available on a Mustang until the 1971 model year.

A preproduction 69 Shelby had power windows but that is the only Mustang/Shelby I am aware of . Parts came from a Cougar.

That I can't answer, but I'll let you look in this forum's library for the answer. We do not have access to the "Mercury Car Parts" documents, but we do have access to "Ford Car Parts" (aka MPC) available. I'll let you browse and get familiar with those documents. It does have T-Bird stuff in it.
(For reference, in paper format, my paper copies are in 8 volumes and take up about 23 inches in bookcase space.)

Jim, for your information I did check the Ford MPC. I checked the digital copy I have first and didn't see anything. I then check my hard copy of the original Ford MPC and it doesn't show anything either. I have both because I don't always trust that the digital or paper copies that are reproduce are accurate (missing pages, etc)
Anybody know why the Mustang didn't have that option available??

The preproduction 69 Shelby was restored in the last few years and as far as I know only 69 Cougar power window parts were sourced as donors.

Because in 1969 power windows were not as widely expected to be in a car of the level of the Mustang. Cougars however we're a luxury car and those buyers expected options like power windows.

The Cougar power window stuff will fit a 1969 Mustang and work fine. But - the parts are not very reliable and they are crazy expensive. Everything is used, none of it is reproduced, and it is 50 + years old at this point. Roll up windows are great - and they work.

Plus one! If the electricity is disconnected you can roll the window up!

When you roll the windows down, you get "armstrong air conditioning".
