Topic: Carb spacer/PCV adaptor

Hey everyone, my first post here!

I took my car to a mechanic who told me I should remove the aftermarket heat spacer I had installed out from under the carb. It?s an Autolite 4100, 289 A code. 1966. I think the heat spacer was made by Holley or something. So I said that was fine as long as you can get it running good!
Come to find out, he removed the carb spacer/PCV adaptor and ended up using the Holley spacer because the carb was bottoming out on the intake manifold! I told him that was a factory component designed to work with this carb. He said he looked up the VIN and that my particular car did not come with the spacer. I?m looking through my service manual and I don?t see anything about this spacer only going on certain engines. It looks like all of them had it! So what is the truth? Should this spacer be on my car? I can list the VIN # if needed. Pic is attached for reference.

The simple answer is yes. Even the 2V used a spacer. I would question the shop you took it to.

+1. i would find a new shop too. he obviously is not familiar with old cars.

I call BS on your mechanic. It seems like you caught him in a fib given his statement compared to the facts.He would have serious credibility issues in my eyes if he was mine.

For fast answers on things like this the do it yourself method would be to simply check out the Unrestored Picture Threads (further down the main page) would provide you with a fair number of pictures of unrestored car similar or like your car.

- Another source would be getting a copy of the factory assembly manuals. You'll see a fair number of members suggesting to get all of them for your 66.

  Yes pretty common and a bit easier to find examples of as we've seen compared to later years.  Don't know why they would have change that detail
