stuck seat belt
« on: June 01, 2024, 05:59:42 PM »
I have a 1964.5 Convertible Mustang I am restoring.  I have the stock front seat belts (although I am missing one female half).  The one female I have looks terrific, but I cannot get the seat belt length to adjust.  It is stuck.

Has anyone seen this?

Is there a fix?

Can these be taken apart?

"Stuck" as in you can't lift the latch? Have you tried WD-40?

Sorry, you are right that is unclear. No the latch works great. I can not adjust the belt length. It is stuck at the current length. I have thought about WD40 but afraid it will stain the belt.

Guessing - if I remember correctly - the bar that pinches the webbing is stuck in place (locked in place) so you need to dislodge

Sorry this is a file picture. You can spread the two ends of the webbing to see and access it better than shown in the pictures

In the past I've just given the bar a wack in the direction opposite of the latch end but you make the call on you car and parts. If it locked up before it is likely going to do the same again unless you soak it, remove the likely rust or burr

Jeff,

The 1964.5 seat belts are very different from the other years.  They do not have the typical roller as shown in your picture.  It is just a fixed flat bar the belt wraps around.  I am sure the rust from the bar is stuck to the belt.  I just cannot figure out how to disassemble the buckle to free things up or how to simply free the belt from the bar.

I recommend that you send your belts to Python Restorations https://pythonrestoration.com/ I've had a couple of sets restored by them and was satisfied by their quality, prices and delivery times.
