I would like to add the following comments to this Post :
1) As John noted previously, the 1967 Interior Assembly Manual page that shows these clips is of very poor quality. I tried to darken it up in order to make it more readable, but had very limited success (first attachment). However, it is good enough that one can compare it to a page in the 1968 Interior Assembly Manual, and can see that the pages are virtually the same. As you can see (second attachment), the 1968 is much more readable.
The most interesting thing here is the note that these clips were to be used only with the Glass Back Curtain Option.
2) At this point, I decided to check with a few of my ?go to? Sellers to see if they . might have some of these clips ; no luck. As was previously mentioned, AMK
does not show them as available. I now thought that these clips may have been ?Factory Only?, and ?Not Serviced. I then contacted a long time 1957-59 Ford
Friend who still does a lot of ?Junkin?. I sent him a copy of the illustration in
the Ford Standard & Utility Parts Catalog, as well as a picture from this Post,
and asked him to check any 1967-68 Mustang Convertibles that he might come
across for these clips. He noted that the clips looked very familiar. The next day, he got back to me and said that he had several of them ; they were for his ?57
convertible that he is restoring. We looked in the 57 Body, Trim and Sealant Assembly Manual, and sure enough, there were the 358407-S2 clips ; two on each side of the well liner. While John noted that the clip appeared in the 1958 Parts and Accessories Catalog, as neither my friend nor I had a 1958 Assembly Manual, we looked in the 1959 Body, Trim and Sealant Assembly Manual, which we both had. Sure enough, it showed that the 358407-S2 clips were required on the 59 Convertibles. Later on, my friend noted that another friend of his had told him that he was pretty sure that these clips had been used on Ford Convertibles through 1962.
This then prompted me to look through the 1953-57 Body Parts Catalog, and each year?s Parts and Accessories Catalog from 1958 through 1967. Interestingly, the only year the clip was listed was in the 1958 Parts and Accessories Catalog, as John had previously noted. This ?exercise?, plus the fact that any illustraions of the clips are only found I Assembly Manuals, just seemed to reinforce my presumption that these clips were Factory Only, and not available as a Service Part.
Sorry for the long explanation, but the purpose of it is to show that if someone is looking for these clips, it is not necessary to limit oneself to 1967-68 Convertibles. Should you come across any 1957-59 Convertibles (and possibly 1960-62?s), be sure to check them for these clips. The next several attachments are of said clips from a 1957 Convertible.
3) Finally, my last comment is in regard to the actual location of these clips on
1967-68 Mustangs. Could someone Post some pictures of these clips ?in place?
with some kind of reference as to exactly how to spot them ? Are they best seen
From the Trunk or from the Back Seat ?
I figure that my 67 should have them as it came from the Factory with the Glass
Folding back window Option, and since my Dad bought the car from the Original
Owner in 1981 (and don?t believe that the Divider Cardboard had ever been
removed), I believe they should be there. Yet, so far, I have not seen them. Maybe
I just need to disassemble some more ?
I trust this information will be of help.
