I had our 67 Mustang coupe sandblasted early during the restoration process. I had left the door strikers on when it was sandblasted. Now, our body man is getting close to being ready to order the Brittany Blue paint, and he asked if I had new strikers. I don?t. Now the installed strikers have primer on them. I search NPD and found 22008-1A but the part that the door latches on is round. And I?m questioning the color of the material. CJ has DLSP9, it appears to be more of the correct material color and the part the door latches on is oval, like the original ones on the car. But they are stamped 8-66. Seems like I should reuse the original ones. Will soaking them in Evaporust remove the primer and reveal the original material color? If so, seems like getting Evaporust would be the way to go.

  You will need to use paint stripper to get the primer off .Evaporust is for rust removal.

I use aircraft stripper because it is strong. You can get it at home depot.

I don't typically strip paint covering shiny bolts and such but when when I have used it over the years on metals it hasn't effected the finish underneath. Just my experience over the years. Just be sure to use a hard plastic bristle brush when working stubborn areas. A steel bristle brush will effect the finish for example.

If your car was blasted with the strikers installed, I would think that their finish was destroyed by the blasting. At least they will need replating.

Ah, didn?t think about that. What type of plating do I need to have someone reapply? I can?t seem to find new ones that are correct, unless someone knows where I can buy 2 correct 1967 door strikers.

If the media was not too aggressive they could be replated in clear zinc. I have some extras, but do not know the date codes.

I just called a plating place 30 miles from me, they do clear zinc plating, but their minimum charge is $75. A little pricey for a couple of strikers. I bet there is a clear zinc paint out there, but I?d be afraid the paint would not hold up. Do you have 2 door strikers for a 67 I could buy? I live in central Illinois. Or somewhere other than NPD or CJ to look for correct new ones?

I can include them in a future batch for a nominal cost, but that is probably 8-12 weeks away at this point.  If you care about originality including date codes, that is probably the best approach, unless Marty has good date codes for you.   If you don't care about the dates, get a set from Marty.

When I have a couple small pieces, I ask a local place if they can add the pieces to another batch they are doing that has room and I pay a smaller fee.  Not free but at least it is reasonable. No promises they will always do it but the answer is always no if you don't ask.  Maybe worth asking your local place?

I called the plating company back, and asked if I could have my pieces done with another customer. They said no, $75. Don?t believe they have any wiggle room. I?m hesitant to get the strikers plated after the car is all back together. I would rather have the strikers on the car once so I don?t take the chance on scratching the door jam. I may bite the bullet and spend the $75, unless I can find some good quality used ones that are date stamped correctly.

What are the date codes on yours? I have several 67s.
