AJ,

Maybe my Gov't computer rules is blocking, I'll try at home later.

AJ,

Pics really helped me understand thanks for the blog link.

I wonder if three tunes are required for 70 mustang or less than that?

My link to my local stores shows for store pick up order today and pick up tomorrow for all of them as if it is available. However it says "We apologize this item is not available for shipping at this time. However, this item may be purchased at a NAPA store. If the item is not in stock at your local store, then your store associates can order the item for you. We apologize for the inconvenience. Thank you for shopping at NAPA "- That is as of today in KC.
A week after my initial Napa order I get a phone call with a conflicting double talk explanation why it is not here yet with the end result being they can not get anymore and it is obsolete.

Thank you Bob for following up.
I have run into the same situation in Ohio.
Looks like I will be ordering the C.R. Laurence CRL7708 CRL Windshield and Body Sealant.

I feel pretty lucky to have found four tubes. I tip that I use when installing glass is to lay a strip of 3M strip calk in the glass grove of the gasket then install the gasket on the glass. Afterward I seat the gasket by taping it with a rubber mallet. This method is less messy and will make the 8509 go further.

I did not even get a phone call. I just got an email  that said my order was cancelled due to the item not being available. I guess it will be strip caulk in the future for me.

I found out today that there is another brand available. It is CRL windshield and body sealant.  Walmart has it for $14.

Team,

I saw the CRL advertised as well.  It appears to be same product just not sure.  I found six tubes total of the 3M 08509 by calling every auto parts store in my surrounding county.  They were all old stock on back shelves.  Anywhere from $18-24 a tube.  I recommend checking window installer places as well.  They sometimes sell stuff like that if you tell them your dilemma.  Hopefully someone will report how the CCRL compares.  I'm too far away from time to use any to be of help.

I ordered three tubes of the CRL7708 on Amazon. I will not use it until maybe May or June but it looks like the same stuff as the unavailable 3M product.

The CRL stuff looks like the tube version of 3M strip caulk... the sticky butyl type.

I ordered a few tubes a while back but haven't used any.

Charles,
You were correct, it is very sticky and takes a long time to become less tacky.
I put my windshield in on Mother's Day and the stuff is still tacky today over three weeks later.

I put in a '67 gas tank with it. Very much like the 3M product. Seems to be good stuff.
