Install rear glass or back interior first - 69 Sportroof/Mach
« on: January 03, 2024, 10:27:15 PM »
On 69 fastback , are the experts installing rear glass before or after installing the various rear interior fiberglass panels.  I?ve already got the headliner and sails in.   Is there a preferred sequence for rear glass vs rear interior panels.

Thanks for any wise words

I always install all of the glass before the interior.

on a 69 the sail panels will get in the way. I always do the headliner first then glass. Well I did on one car pull the rear upper edge back on the sail panel on a 69 once so I could tuck them, like the headliner) over the rear window opening to help hold the sail panels in place - Yes not factory. Did the job but it was kind of an experiment

On a 69 Mustang you have to put the headliner and the sail panels in first before the glass.  The fabric for both is ideally being held in place by the glass and help eliminate any gaps or sagging in the sail panel and headliner.

After thats all in place then you work with the rest of the interior pieces on the sides and the back seat goes in last.

Yes I agree the headliner goes in first then the glass, but he said he had the headliner in.

When you get to the fiberglas panels, if you have a fold down rear seat, start with the long, narrow one. The 6 clips on the back are a pain. Get it in place and the rest will be easy.😀
