68 SJ Drivers side air vent
« on: October 29, 2023, 02:56:08 PM »
Can someone confirm which of these cables is correct for the drivers side air vent. The chrome version was on my car and the all black plastic version is a reproduction. A photo of an original for reference wouldn't be great. I look in the survivor section but could not find a good enough photo to make the call. Perhaps neither of them is correct?

Thanks

Also could not find a good photo of the clip or nut that secures the handle to the bracket

The plastic version is the one that originally was on my car and broke... because it's plastic.  I replaced it with another plastic one,  I'm assuming from NPD.

I ordered the cable from NPD and it does not come with a clip for some reason. Do you have a photo of the clip? I need to try to track one down.

Thanks

Yes I do believe that's correct.  I'll have to look at my car tomorrow but I seem to recall it was a little fiddley to get it in position.

Photos of the steering column nuts would be great as well if you could. Thanks appreciate it

I know this is a bit off topic for this thread but here you go.  Not sure it's the best picture of the nuts your questioning.

That is great thanks Dave that clarifies my question on the column nuts. Also noticed that the air vent bracket sits in-between the the parking brake handle bracket and the dash. I may need to trouble you for a few more photos. I will PM you if it is not too much trouble. Thank you

Clip for the all plastic constructed air vent cable.

Thanks Scott that id great info and exactly what I was looking for. I sent you an email looking for some parts. Hopefully you can help. I have never seen a clip like that anywhere, so I hope that I can find one.

Nut for the improved partial steel shafted air vent cable.

Thanks Scott. No idea what happened to my nut, but that looks easier to find than the clip for the plastic vent knob!

As a matter of fact the vent bracket sits on top of the openings in the hand brake bracket and uses the two screws to secure both giving the perception the vent bracket is separate when it is not.

I forgot about the Fog Light switch. I don't recall seeing one when I took the car apart 5 years ago. Will try to find it. Also your heater plenum looks to be in great shape.

forgot about the Fog Light knob as well. I don't recall mine, but I took the car apart 5 years ago. Will have to try to find it.

There's a lot of discussion about the fog light switch in a separate thread.  Is there one attaching screw or two? And what about the clip behind the switch? Good luck finding all those bits after all these years.
