Help Identify Air Cleaner
« on: October 28, 2023, 09:38:02 PM »
Hopefully this is the right place to post this. I just picked up this air cleaner. I was told that it came off a Canadian 1968 GT 390. There were no stamps or markings and it appears to be original paint. Is it a factory (original) air cleaner and what car would it have left the factory on? I am considering restoring it if it checks out.

I have not seen an air cleaner with the short vent tube. My understanding is that 67 & early 68 had no vent tube and 68 had the curved vent tube

Thanks

Thanks. This one is 3 inches. FYI Canadian cars did not have smog in 68, and I was told they received the 67 style air cleaner. Do you know if that is correct?

To start 67's when they had the breather nipple, I've only seen curved ones though an air cleaner like you appear to show turned up in the discussion below. Not sure if we came to any conclusion as to where it came from. In reply #18 a member found it on a car that was restored at a show so no telling were it came from originally.  might merge this thread and that one together if we can get some new or more defined identification on this particular one. Haven't seen these elsewhere since that first one was posted.

Here is an earlier discussion on the PCV and other related parts for 1968 Canadian 390's you might have already seen

Thanks Jeff, but you definitely pointed me in the right direction. However, It is interesting indeed. According to that post you referenced, there looks like at least one other Canadian car that may have had the same short vent tube air cleaner. I was a mystery to me since I have never seen one like it before. Hopefully someone else with some knowledge on the subject will chime in as well.

Off topic, but I started another post about the San Jose Heater hose. Not sure if you saw it. Perhaps you can shed some light on the subject as you have a great knowledge of San Jose cars
