Help identify oil filler cap
« on: September 21, 2023, 09:37:58 PM »
Please help identify this type oil filler cap - Autolite stamped, NOS.  Whatever you can provide - year range, vehicle(s) etc.  Of course part number if you can.  Thanks!

1968-70 oil cap. Should have a rubber grommet with either a square brass elbow for 1968, or black plastic elbow 1969-70. Elbow would have a hose attached and goes to air cleaner base side metal elbow/fitting.

I had a 02/69 351-2v in a Dearborn Cougar that had the brass block on the oil cap.  Note it also still had the correct clip on the AC charge tag.

Interesting that there were still some of those still in the system at Dearborn. Have a number of examples build two months prior to your example. Guess we need to look to see if we can find more examples to support your finding  Bottom picture in my last post was sold on Dec 10th Haven't looked up the other example yet

Other examples I have pictures with the plastic elbow include. This is a V8 engine detail for others reading the thread. Just focusing on the first half or so of production at Dearborn on this survey

The following had/have plastic elbows from the pictures I have. None are restored cars.

9F02R1000xx
9F02S108xxx Scheduled build of 11J?
9F02R1122xx Scheduled build of 09K

9F01S1348xx
9F01H1365xx Scheduled build of09M

If this discussion develops we're separate it and use it as the start of of a new thread focused on the elbows alone. Might be a good idea anyway since I don't recall an established one on 69's
