Thanks Charles that is what I thought. Mine is very dull and looked like cad, so wanted to be sure.

There are very few parts with cad plating on early Mustangs... most being fasteners like locking nuts/washers.


Easy to determine the coating by soaking in evaporust.  Anything cad plated after being soaked will come out yellowish and when dry, will have a powdery white appearance.


Zinc plated parts won't change colors and will remain silver where the zinc coating remains.

Thanks. Since I am refining everything, I usually start with a muriatic acid wash after the solvent tank and then into the media blaster before plating or phosphating. Just did this batch today. Glad I have the ability to refinish everything in house. Comes in mighty hand sometimes.
