Deluxe Interior Upper & Lower console -1968 San Jose
« on: July 21, 2023, 12:38:37 AM »
I have a few console related questions.

I would like to confirm if this looks like an original console base. It has part numbers as per the photos, but looks like someone has chopped it up. Not sure if this was done at the factory or after the fact. All of the rest of the console appears to be original. Console appears to have flocking. Not sure if that makes a difference or if reproductions do as well or just originals.

Regarding the upper console I am looking for some good reference photos of the wiring to the console. I tried searching here and my photos are not that great. I just want to confirm what the wire looks like and how it it routed from the wiring harness to the console.

Thanks

Console base looks fine to me. A good refresh with a few coats of SEM Landau Black should bring back the factory sheen. Be sure to use an adhesion promotor. Yes, Flocking the inside of the compartment is correct.

Regarding the wiring, my 67 Osborn Assembly Manual shows the routing of the power feed wiring. Do you have a manual for the 68?

Great thanks. Did you get any of the vinyl covering redone or the padding. Mine is ok, but could be better. I prefer to use original if possible and restore if I can. Still looking for a good photo showing the routing of the wire to the upper console.

Looked but sorry don't have any pictures of a 67 or 68 console base that is stripped down to just the main body for a four speed car to compare the modifications that are present on the one you shows in your initial post.

As for routing of the wiring for the roof hopefully these pictures will help

Coupe rear mount and wire

Fastback rear mount and wire

Both indicate that the power wire travels up the B pillar on the passenger side to mid point of the rear roof header where it connects to the console wire loom

Hope this helps

That is great thanks Jeff. Now If I can just find the wire that goes to the console!

More on the console light wire. Unfortunately the only wire I did not remove from my car was under the headliner. The body shop removed the head liner a few years ago and now I have no idea what happened to it. So I am looking to find another one. I have search but there does not seem to be one available in the aftermarket that I could find. I(f anyone has one it would be greatly appreciated.

PS is this where the upper console light wire connects?

Sorry don't know for sure. Out of the 75 or so Mustangs and Shelby's only had one with the overhead console. Does look like a possibility. I would check the wiring diagram to see what the source/power wire color should be, test to see if its hot when its suppose to be then make a wire if you can't find one since its not visible once everything is together

Thanks Jeff I think the green console wire with a red connector connects to the red connector wire also with green wire in the photo. Odd as the manual refers to blue, but that must be something else. Sometime the Osbourne manual can be confusing, which is why I like to double check.
