69 / 70 FB Rear Seat Upholstery Help
« on: May 19, 2023, 07:06:57 PM »
I have owned a few 69 and 70 FB but am confused on these seat cushions.

These apparently came off the same car, but Im not familar with this mis match pattern.
Both metal tags on the back have C9ZB numbers with matching May 22 1969 date codes, also on the upper cushion within those tiny rectangles there is wood grain decal , and the lower cushion has comfort weave.
Can anyone confirm that these 2 different styles were used together ? If so, what vehicle or interior package

What is the entire Ford part number? Some of those tags may be for seat frame components and springs. Also they could be a number for an ordering/shipping/stocking batch, like 5 of the same type of item.

As I suspected, the Ford base number - 673A38 - is a group of seat components, in this case it's called "Rear Seat Silencer", used in sub-assemblies, and nothing to do with seat coverings.
Lower C9ZB-6363120A
This Ford base number is 63120 which is listed as "Front, Center, Opera, & Rear Seat Cushion Springs", again, not seat covers. The -A signifies more than one (there's a -B).
The rest of the numbers, "C9ZB-63xxxxx" defines the decade "C" = 1960; the first year used "9" = 1969; the Ford vehicle "Z" = Mustang; the engineering group "B" = Body; the body style that used the item first "63" = Sportsroof.
This info was found the the 1975 edition of Ford Car Parts (aka MPC) in the text section, general information, page 8. Neither number is listed in the general text or illustration sections.

Metal tags only identify the springs not the upholstery applied. Just like many other parts on your car you can have parts originally designed for earlier Mustangs or other Ford products. In this case, if the upholstery is original its for a 70 and mentioned above. On the back side if the material, if original there would be an identifier number and date codes. Would be for a 70 with and without the fold down

I think I said that, with further number to item description.

Thanks for all the input and information.
So am I correct to say it is correct for any 70 sports roof with deluxe interior
and not correct for Mach 1 because the Mach 1 pattern was different ?

Yes and yes though the seats could be reupholstered and the springs reused for other applications

Top example is coded EA and is for deluxe interior
Lower left is a Mach I style and the lower right a standard interior example
