Correct 68 rear view mirror
« on: April 22, 2011, 07:53:47 PM »
I've been going through my selves of parts looking for my original rear view mirror. Were there 2 styles of mirrors used in 68? I have one with a paddle type flipper and one with a white lever arm? Can't find a part number on the housings.

Mine had the paddle type lever, I've never seen anything else.

I think both styles were used. Look at the back, 68 should mount on a ball not with a screw like the 67 A lot of the 68s were color keyed to the interior but I think that when they did not have the color they needed they used black.  Marty

Believe we done a study about this (or was it 67 mirrors)  Guess we could go through all the pictures and see what turns up.  Sure the question will come up again if we don't try and address it ;)

Will see if I can find something to offer to the discussion

We've studied this quite a bit and it seems to be a plant/time frame issue. For NJ 68s I've never seen anything but the left to right flipper used. It seems that Dearborn cars had the front to back flapper but it came into play towards the latter part of the year. i don't remember for sure but IIRC SJ was similar to Dearborn

Tim I have a pic of a what seems to be an unmolested 68 coupe with a late May build date, Dearborn with a standard interior. It had the left to right lever. So by late build date do you mean June, July, August build dates for the fore/aft flapper?

My June 2nd-built Dearborn coupe has the front-to-back paddle lever.

I don't have any hard fast dates but I would say yes to last couple months of production is when it occured. If i were judging I would accept may/june as either ok for Dearborn
