67 power steering return hose clamp
« on: April 10, 2023, 09:45:12 AM »
Looking to confirm or correct the power steering return hose clamp I found on my car.  It appears to be part number 97237, and not the alternate 97201.

Mine has one of two nut retainer tabs busted off - is there a source for these other than a junkyard?

Wittek hose clamps of various sizes are frequently sold on Ebay. NPD sells one that is similar.

Check your broken clamp and there will be a large single number on the inside or outside perimeter of the band. The number is the best way to confirm if you are getting the correct size clamp remotely. Off the top of my head I don't recall what the number for the 5/8 size is.

Thanks Bob.  I can see Wittek stamped, but the large number or numbers is difficult to see.  I have a large collection of other Witteks so I'll go see what I can find and report back.

Found a good replacement - it is Wittek #23.  The assembly manual calls out the S8 zinc plate finish - is that assembly line accurate?

Silver or zinc is correct finish on these from what I have seen.  I have some original Wittek clamps and can confirm the numbers when I get back to Arizona.

I typically see silver on the PS and fuel line Wittek clamps of various years 67-70. Gold is typical on Wittek thermactor clamps.

Agree with Bob here on the finishes.
I found an original power steering clamp here and they were marked as a Wittek with a 2.  Ford used these but also some GM applications for power steering as well so you should be able to find them if you look around at swap meets etc.

After seeing this post I looked in my hardware bin and found these 2 clamps from NPD. The one on the left is PN 3A713-1k for 65-73 mustang PS hose. The one on the right looks like and measures out like the diagram at the top of the post. It is NPD PN 2344-1 for 55-57 Tbird PS return hose. FYI.

Have seen those and they dont resemble anything at all the factory used - from the screws to the clamp.
Original power steering hose clamps are not that hard to find and for what people are looking for on this forum, I would find originals and use them.

Either will work and likely why NPD sells them. Does not mean that they are copies or reproductions of originals. If you restoring your car. agree with Marcus find some originals

Based on your past Shelby posts I thought I would make sure that you are aware that although the # 2 clamp that is being discussed was used on regular Mustangs it was not used on the 67 Shelby's. All of the clamps used on the Shelby were the crimp type clamps .

I have the crimp clamps on my car. I just thought it interesting that the Tbird clamp had the same measurements and looked a lot like the clamp in the illustration.
