Gaffer tape on taillight housing

What was the purpose of gaffer tape over the bulb hole in 68?s ?
Was it done at all plants?

Common thought it to keep things from falling into the taillight housing and creating problems. Believe it was done at the plant providing/assembling the taillights so yes it would affect all of the plants as far as how they arrived. What they did with the tape may have differed between plants, shifts and in turn individual workers.

Do you have a specific plant and production period your interested or focused on?

Yes, May 27, 1968 at San Jose.

Guys assigned to this task at San Jose would either relocate the tape (remove and stick it elsewhere on the bucket or just cut and shove the socket into the hole, leaving the tape in place. Found more examples of the tape being left in place in my pictures for this year and plant   Examples below

No problem Jeff.  I plan on doing a separate thread on the car some time soon to document as many details as possible based on what others want to see.
