San Jose Paint Inspection Stamp?
« on: March 15, 2023, 11:04:47 AM »
This stamp was on the back on the right side front fender extension. It is a May built 68 Fastback R code from San Jose. Does anyone have a clearer photo of this stamp?

I think this is the same paint inspector stamp here.  This is from a June San Jose built car.....

You would find that stamp on the individual parts that were painted and inspected separately from the main unibody So the cowl stamping would have been a different inspector while the inspector that stamped the fenders would have also stamped the hood and head light buckets on both sides. The number shown in the lower picture Marcus posted is the second rotation number for the car that would also match the number in the upper left hand corner of the cars buildsheets as mentioned in other threads on that subject.

Kascus - If I might ask. When was you car completed?  I'm collecting and charting as many as we can find so we can work out specific employee assignments and when they were working at San Jose and other plants

The back of the passenger side fender extension. It was the only panel not bead bladed or replaced prior to me purchasing it. It is circled in the attached photo.

My car could have had the same inspector, but unfortunately my car was repainted and I have no physical evidence of inspection stamps. However I would think the examples from your car would be about as close as I could get to stamp locations etc

My car could have had the same inspector, ...

Not really a certainty. Only if they were painted on the same day and during the same shift. Date shown is the completion date not often or always on the same day as it was painted. After paitn and trim line the cars/bodies were rearranged in a different order for the final assembly the one that the available date identifies

Comparing rotations would be a better gauge but typically we don't have that information
