Help to ID some 67-68 leaf springs
« on: April 13, 2011, 10:33:31 PM »
Not sure if it's Tim or Pete but I'm trying to ID some original leaf springs. They came out of a early build 68 vert. Numbers are as follows
C7ZA
5556-AA
G1-7F and G1-7G
One has the numbers going perpendicular to spring (7F) and the 7G has them going horizontal to the length of the spring. One looks to have a white stripe. I thought small block verts and 390 verts shared the same rear springs. I was expecting to see either an orange or a brown stripe. These came out of a C code 68 vert. Built in Metuchen.

Not sure about the paint stripe, but an old Eaton Detriot Spring datasheet I have lists different rear leafs for 68 convertibles 289 vs 390.  Similar, but the free arch on the 390 is 6 1/4" and the 289 8 3/8" (?).  Part for 289 is C7ZZ-5560-A, 390 C7ZZ-5560-C/-M.

Thanks for the response. The numbers you list are part numbers for replacement parts which are called out in the MPC. All 3 combinations are listed, A,C & M. It makes sence that C/M are an either /or because both are 4 leaf-665 lb load rated. The A suffix part number is 650 lb rated. Since I can see the stripe I will lightly sand it to see if it really is silver. It looks like these are the 665 lb rated springs because of the AA. The 650 springs would have been marked 5556-J, AB.
