My build sheet shows '70' under the 'wheel' catagory. Does this mean my Mach is supposed to have 14x7 rims? I was unde the impression for years that the 351C 2 bbl base engine meant that the rims were 14x6. My Marti report says E70-14 tires. The second image is from dealer literature.

All 3 of my 70 cars where I have the build sheet show "70" in that space and all 3 came with 7" rims. This subject still comes up all the time, I've parted out dozens of 70 mach1's in the 1980's and 90's (at least 1/2 were "H" code cars) and never had one with 6" rims. I've heard that because they came standard with the "competition suspension " they all had 7" rims, I've also evaluated a 70 "Q" code vert back in the 1990's that had 6" rims that the owner swore were original. I'll check my colection of build sheet copies when I get home and see if I can find one with "60" in that space .....    Hope this helps, John

Save you the effort.   Yes I found 70 buildsheets with 60 in E7 & E8 boxes. The two examples I had scans of, didn't check the paper files, were 302 auto cars

Al 1970 mach 1s should have had 14X7 wheels. The Build sheet for all machs will have a 7 in that box. 6 for others and a 5 for 200 powered cars. I'm sure some 14x6 wheel machs were made by mistake but the number would be small.

I thought this was pretty clear cut, but apparently it's not... I went thru about 50 build sheet copies for Mach1's I had filed , here's what I came up with:

Wheel size (Fields E7,8)   60 means 6" rims, 70 means 7" rims

Plain Steel wheel cars have "R" under style (E10), "S" under type (E11), Color (E9) and Code (E12) are blank
Styled steel wheel cars have "A" under color (E9), "S" under style (E10), "A" under type (E11), and "A" under code (E12)

Type of hubcap isn't shown on the build sheet, but it's specified in the spot 65 of the vehicle order image (that big long number across the top of the marti report)
"9" = styled steel wheels
"V" = trim rings / hubcaps
"3"= Sport Wheel Covers  (This is blank on alot of Marti reports)

What I found:
All "Q" and "R" code cars have 7" rims and F70x14 tires
Most "H" and "M" code cars had 7" rims with either the standard E70x14 or the optional F70x14 tires ($29.00 option)

However.....

I have one buildsheet for an "M" code car with the optional styled steel wheels, E70x14 tires, and 6" rims. This is the only buildsheet I have for a Mach1 with 6" wheels.  I also have one buildsheet for an "H" code car with styled steel wheels, optional F70x14 tires, and 7" rims.

Not quite related, but I also have 2 "H" code Cougar buildsheets that have cars with F70x14 tires and 6" plain steel wheels but they may not be "Competition Suspension" cars so it's not really relevant.

70  cj scj verts have 6'' wheels and i dont know why but that info is in the 70 specs sheets.  Any body know why a cj vert would have 6'' as they weight more than a fastback so u would think the vert would get 7'' and they all have same tire wheel clearances ?

You have the build sheet which calls for 14X7 so that is how your car was built. I only have nine H code mach build sheets and they are all 14X7. All 70 machs should have been built with 14X7 wheels but mistakes happen.

Oddly, I have 2 build sheets from 70 G code Eliminators and they have 14X6 wheels with F70 14 tires.

All Eliminators had the same size wheels and tires, regardless of the engine.
Build sheets all show "60" for wheel size and "F70  14" for tire size.
