4000/4001 GE headlights decode ink stamps?
« on: December 28, 2022, 03:34:31 PM »
Hi all,

I have 2 NOS 4000 GE headlights and another 2 NOS 4001 GE headlights. The 4000 and 4001 are correct Assembly Line for a 67 Shelby please? Does from factory had Made For Ford in ink stamp at the back of the headlight?

Here are four pictures of my ink stamps on the headlights. These are dated 4-6, 6-6, 7-6, 8-6 they means for 1966 please?

Thanks Kyle.

I would be most concerned with the outside appearance that is seen once installed . In your case It should have the FOMOCO etched in the glass and the MFG mark should be ether TS or GE . It will not matter if you have a proper date code on the back side if the front side that you see when installed is the wrong MFG or missing the FOMOCO.

The Plus 25s were a later bulb, I believe.
I had 4 of them and now I can't recall if the flutes were correct.

Show us a pic of the fronts and we'll see if it matches the wide flute design used in the 1960s.

Kyle -- Count the flutes (ridges, if you will) on the headlights in the lower left area.
My hi/lo and hi only beams have 8 flutes to the left of the A in GENERAL.
You might count 7 or 9 since it's hard to know exactly where to start.

But the later bulbs have around 16 (as I recall).

It may be that the Plus 25 came out in 71 as this ad references that many new new cars are using the Plus 25 in 1972.

Couple of earlier thread that might help with the fluting differences and year of production of the bulbs

Marcus did an article on bulbs but it was focused on 69-70 ones

Here are pictures of the front view.
Bulbs are the narrow flute early 70's design. They are not the wider 1/4 inch wide flute 60's era bulb.

A quick check when viewing these online is that the Plus 25s appear to have red writing on the back.
