VIN tag placement
« on: December 16, 2022, 03:58:42 PM »
Does someone have a pattern or measurements on where the VIN tag on the door goes on a 67 NJ car? And, how to install the tag? I bought a replacement tag with rivets from Marti reports website. Also, a pattern or measurements for the buck tag on the left inner fender apron.

The rivet is simply inserted in each hole and it's compressed so that the rivet expands and holds the plate tight to the door edge. A flat plate, body tool or something like that is held tightly against the rivet face as I push from inside the door with a flat or domed tip punch whose tip is narrower than the end of the rivet has worked for me in the past. Had an extra Phillips screwdriver that had a diameter that I was happy with (was about the right size for the task) that I cut the tip off of and ground the tip to a slight dome for this purpose. Handle end made it easier to apply pressure from inside the door.
Some will place a little bit of glue or very think double adhesive tape between the two to help hold it in place.

The question on why the door doesn't have holes currently is an interesting one. Doors would be standard I believe so measurements from any of the plants should work for you

Thanks for the great tip on how to rivet it to the door. I should have mentioned, I replaced the door with a new repro. Maybe there are holes in the new repro door!

How about the location for a 67 NJ car buck tag?
