1967 gt500 thermostat housing
« on: December 11, 2022, 08:01:54 PM »
I have a C5AE thermostat housing with January 67 casting date.  Could this be considered original for a gt500 or is the casting date too late or ?

There are more issues then the date code. The C5AE marked thermostat is not correct for a regular production 67 GT500. The C5AE housing is designed for the large diameter thermostat and the 67 GT500 used the small diameter thermostat throughout production. The C7AE-A is the correct housing for 67 GT500 . It has a distinctive shape different from the C5AE housing.

390 Mustangs only used the C5AE housing up until approximately Dec 1966 according to the MPC  when the cast iron intake changed along with the thermostat housing because of the smaller diameter thermostat. The C7AE housing was one year only for 67 Shelby and Mustang. That is one reason it is so hard to find.
