Sheet metal date code location for a rad. Support
« on: April 06, 2011, 12:35:39 AM »
Does any one know where to look for the sheet metal date code on a radiator support an a 64? I'm wanting to make sure my rad. support was replaced OR if it's original. My rad. support does not have the 3 generator cooling louvers. And if my rad. support is original, then should i not bother trying to stamp the louvers or cut a support from a 64 with the 3 louvers. In other word's, if my 64 wasn't born with the 3 louvers. I don't need them. Tks Scott

  • If it does not fit, you need a bigger hammer!

I found the sheet metal date code on the rad. support. 8-19-2C All other date stamps are 5- 2 to 23-D2. So as my prediction, The rad support was replaced with a 65 model. And what a hack job was done when it was replaced. You can see the edges where the spot welds were, were drilled clear through the support and the front apron, the holes can be seen on the back side of the apron and instead of butt welding it at the cross member it has a un ground bead of weld on it. Shopping for a correct rad. support with the 3 cooling louvers now. C-ya Scott

I have an all original late 64 1/2 coupe (build date 7/21/64). It did NOT have the louvers in the rad support or the 'other' (non-beveled) arm rest bases, nor did it have the fixed-position pass. seat. It DID have the 64 1/2 hinges on the front seats and the 'unfolded' hood and corresponding headlight bezels.

Guessing it's a Dearborn car??

So it could have been assembled as early as late June or mid August. When did you buy it or when did you pick it up at the dealership?
