Prepping quarter panel trim
« on: December 06, 2022, 04:43:16 AM »
How do you prep a coupes quarter panel trim for paint? If you sand it, that will remove any texture they have. Seems like sandblasting might be too harsh. My 67?s have light rust on them.

I would use lacquer thinner and a scotch bright to remove the paint then remove the rust with chrome wheel cleaner.

Strip to bare metal to maximize the grain. Often helps to scrub using circular patterns.

If you use a primer at all it can't be a high fill one (wouldn't use one myself but that is me)  and light coats of color until you get cull coverage. Again to keep as much visible grain in the final prodccue
