Is it possible that there was an owner added arm that swiveled to keep the plunger of the door switch deactivated?

Don't know. Possibly a past owner was planning on adding an alarm system and got the pilot hole started but changed their mind. Not factory

Jim : I thought the same thing. I wanted to add a picture of one that was available "back then", as I remember them well. I wanted to add a picture of one for those who may not be familiar with what we are describing, but couldn't put my hands on either my 1966 or 67 JC Whitney Catalogs at the moment ; however, attached is one from a 1959 JC Whitney Catalog.

May well be the answer
If you zoom in on the hole
With some imagination you can almost see the outline of the shape
Maybe..
Thankyou

I made one for a 60 Ford Starliner that I owned. I remember the J C Whitney version.
