fomoco stamp on radiator
« on: September 21, 2022, 03:53:48 AM »
Hi all,
Is there a fomoco stamp that can be placed on an alluminium radiator to make it look OEM

see below.

I am tempted to grind out my old radiator but dont have the heart to do this incase it needs to go to a better home?

There is not anything ready made . I would make a mold of the one on the Ford radiator then epoxy the FOMOCO onto the aluminum radiator before cutting up a good brass top tank.

So far all of my original 70/71 radiators have had the FoMoCo stamp. But I have seen other radiators without it but with the part number stamped on the side. Might have been a replacement tank but looked original.

Yes I believe 70 had a FOMOCO trademark . The difference in the trademark style most likely has to do with the Modine plant servicing the SJ plant vs the Modine plant servicing the Dearborn or Metuchen plant. I have seen the picture on the left trademark on SJ radiators for example and the one on the right is more typical on radiators used at the eastern plants.

How do propose to make a mold?
I agree, I dont want to cut the brass radiator as it is talking to me and needs to go to a home for someone to go concourse

I have used wax,JB weld and pam for a release agent. The internet ,You tube etc. for more how to info. You will have to think outside the box on some aspects I  believe.

All the 70 radiators I have ever seen have the FoMoCo stamping on the top.
Why do you want to go thru the effort of making a mold, stamp etc?  I assume your tank is missing this?  I would assume its easier to just find a replacement radiator or top tank.

Not going to be much of a "fake" or copy given there are likely dozens of things that will look very different

IMHO it will be like putting a AUTOLITE sticker on a solid state voltage regulator with the short bare case  ::)

A aluminum radiator is a expensive investment. If encouraged by you means suggesting a alternative to
a doomed to fail cutting up a brass top tank for a trademark then guilty as charged.  ::)
