65 Mustang Intake Manifold Bolts
« on: August 17, 2022, 10:34:22 PM »
I have a 65 Mustang A code and need to know what are the correct fasteners for the intake manifold? Are they, bolts or a combination of studs and bolts?

First welcome to the site. Hope you find the support and information helpful in your concours related projects

All bolts with a very thin washer on each to help seal. Studs were used in later years and other applications

Though you didn't share when the engine was assembled here are two pictures. Upper left shows a commonly found head marking and the lower right shows the very think metal washer better

You need 12 each of Ford hardware part number 378484-S99. Each bolt comes with a nitrile (rubber) covered rubber sealing washer, 0.031in thk. They are available from AMK Products - www.amkproducts.com - under their stock number B-12508, which is a pack of 4, you will need 3 packs.

NPD carries just the washers for those who still have their bolts, part 9424-1BK.

One more point. The bolts and washers are painted engine color after the intake manifold is installed.

These NPD washers are repackaged parts, F702, pack of 12, $9.00, from AMK. I looked at my "stash" and found two different sizes. One is Ford hardware part number 379257-S, which has a documented outside diameter of 0.656 inch, and several with an OD of 0.565 inch. All are used and came from wrecked Mustangs so the actual application is not known.

All parts ordered. Y'all are gonna cost me alot of 💰 money lol. I'm not far away from my concours goal, until I discover something else that needs to be done.

Ken would suggest, like we always do, that you add your cars information (when and were it was built at a minimum) to your signature so its there for every discussion and querstion

Glad we could help
