Junkyard guessing game
« on: August 12, 2022, 09:56:14 PM »
What can you tell about me?  Let's start out with one response per person for the first several replies so that everyone gets a chance.

Richard Urch - you need to recuse yourself on this one.

I know nothing about convertibles.  Look at the list of cars in my sig!

Since I know nothing about them that shouldn't stop me from guessing it's a 1967 Convertible.

Richard Urch - you need to recuse yourself on this one.

I, at first, didn't see this sentence so I answered (then deleted) that I "...could answer but wouldn't be guessing" and offered a close image up of a telltale of the year of the vehicle.

And Randy, there are only two leaves on that sprig (not 3). We people who live in these here woods can spot it a mile away!

Evidence of dual exhaust is, I think, the Where's Waldo find.

So far we have a dual exhaust power top convertible with black interior.  This is not a 67, and there is no poison ivy in the picture, but it does abound in the area to be sure.  This is not in Oklahoma, but if there is an Oklahoma musical reference in there I'm not getting it.

Other than the obvious red exterior not mentioned, that might be it for this picture.  Later this evening I'll add another one that will make the year obvious.  In the meanwhile it would be interesting to see if anyone else can spot something that I can't and that nobody has yet.

Before you post, I'll take a crack at it. Orientation of the dual exhaust hanger bracket makes it a 65 or 66.  Absence of E-Brake cable channel in the rear floor pan would make it a 66.

In the meanwhile it would be interesting to see if anyone else can spot something that I can't and that nobody has yet.

Might be wrong or right - we'll see for sure but a few thoughts now that the restrictions have been dropped and others have been given some time to post

Clue  - Rear seat cushion and what is left of the material in poor condition appears to be resting where the front seat would be and the pattern does not look like 66 material for the insert. So if its not a 67 then it does not leave us with many other options if the seat is original to the car and was not tossed in the body

Given the rot in the floor not sure if the E brake "tunnels" would be visible in the picture provided and not all 65's had this style of main floor pan as mentioned (no individual thread discussing the detail let) in the Running Change Thread.

If it was a later car the heater box would be a clue also but not for an early car

So if the interior clue is correct and the body lacks the E brake tunnels (not sure on that one) then we might be able to narrow down to the month or months the car was built.  :)

Since I am not allowed to comment (yet) and John has already stated it's NOT a 67, I will offer proof of it NOT being a 67 by pointing out that the exhaust hanger pattern is 65/66. The studs for the hangers are vertical to one another. 67-69 version are diagonal to one another.

So your in cahoots this  :D

Accept and agree that its not a 67 Mustang just using that comment to help narrow down the choices when comparing the seat pattern

Great discussion - I'm not very familiar with the 65-66 nuances so I've learned a few things.

Here is the next picture.

As is the case with picked-over cars you can't assume that the loose parts inside are from the vehicle.  Case in point I just pulled out a 69 Mustang fastback interior rear side panel from a 67 Camaro at this same place.
