Either is fine.  Seems like most of the original cars we see with SS wheels had a plain spare in the trunk.

Agree with Charles on this.

i have had two unrestored cars with styled steels rims both 66 models from San Jose and Dearborn and both have a plain rim as a spare.

My 66 Dearborn convertible C-Code has five original styled steel wheels. Can't say for sure the car shipped that way from the factory, though.

If a standard steel wheel is used in the trunk what color should it be? I've seen Black and body color....

Car came from the factory with styled steel wheels. Wouls spare tire also be mounted on a SSW or a plain steel rim? If so would the rim be painted body color? Thanks!

my own experiences,  others may be different!!!!!!!!

two date I have had two unrestored SJ 66 GT cars that have been factory ordered with SSW, and both spares have been a black standard rim. not a SSW, the two cars in question have both had original window stickers to confirm the SSW where factory ordered.  one of these cars had a pre dot original goodyear tire as well in the trunk that was unused.

The standard spare wheel was a regular wheel with the same tire as the other four. You could get a Style Steel Wheel spare for about $24-25. The first owner of my 66 "K" Fastback did just that, ordered a Style Steel Wheel spare. It's still in the trunk, with the original unused Dual Redline tire mounted on it.

I had a 66 Dearborn A code convertible back in the mid 70's that
had style steel wheels and one in the trunk as a spare but no
trim ring like the four on the car.
Its always been my understanding that the spare matched what was
on the car so if you ordered Style steel wheels the spare was one also.

Ive got a standard 289 '66 and I'm hunting for info regarding wheels installed on the assembly line.  If a car was either ordered with Styled steel wheels or installed at the assembly line did the trunk also get a SS wheel or standard?  If it was likely a SS wheel, did it also get a trim ring or just the wheel?

Welcome to the site

Guess your just checking but I think you'll find the same answer as our PM over on SAAC

Here as at other sites you will find search is your friend ;)

Basically you could get a standard steel rim or styled steel rim based on how you ordered the car or got talked/up sold into by the salesman. Order forms had a spot fo styled steel wheels to be added to the car and a separate box for the type of spare tire

Just one of a couple related threads

Again welcome and hope you find the site useful in your concours related needs and projects
