I am restoring a 1965 Mustang convertible and would like to add rear seat belts. Being a Concours type, I want to position the mounting holes and reinforcements / anchors  as they would have been from the factory. I have the location of the inboard holes measured from a 1966 coupe. I need the help of this Forum to locate the out board holes (toward the inside of the quarter panels).

If your 1966 convertible is pulled apart and you can snap a photograph of your seat belt reinforcements / anchors and mounting holes, I would greatly appreciate it if you would post them to this thread or e-mail them to me: rpclnash@cs.com . If you can give me a few reference measurements from another feature, that would be appreciated as well.

If your 1966 convertible is already put back together, but you have a photograph of when it was apart, please post or e-mail that picture / those pictures.

All help appreciated. Thank you.

There's an extensive discussion with pictures here.  I had this same question last year.

I'm facing this same issue for my 64 1/2 which does not have the dimple marks on the sheet metal like the '66 models do.  Brant was nice enough to provide me with a copy of the 1964 Rotunda rear seat belt installation sheet (Adobe pdf) that has measurements for inboard and outboard bolt hole locations, approximating where the dimple marks would be.  Hope this helps, it's what I'm using to install my rear seat belts.

After taking a closer look at the Rotunda installation sheet and the thread provided by Bryancobb, I'm confused by how far down to go to install the inboard bolt holes and the reference point shown on the drawing.

If I'm reading this right, the measurement points are:

Outboard, measure out 21.08-inches from the center of the tunnel and then down (on the side panel, not the floor) 8.76-inches to the correct hole location.
Inboard, measure out 8.72-inches from the center of the tunnel and then down .80-inches? Is that a typo on the drawing?

I didn't see from the previous thread and measurements posted, so does anyone have measurements for the inboard and outboard rear bolt hole placements?

The outboard measurement is 3.76" down from the rear panel/floorpan seam, not 8.76".  Make sure you measure down from where the rear panel/floorpan overlap.

Keep in mind, the Rotunda data sheet MAY be for more models than just Mustangs.  The pictures are of a factory equipped car.

It's easy to locate the holes without measurements just from the photos and reference points.

Ivygreen65,

Thanks for the catch on that outboard measurement. I'm in Rhode Island and my car is in Virginia, so I'm trying to figure this out long distance. What is the correct inboard measurement going down from the rear panel/floorpan overlap? The drawing looks to show .80, but that can't be correct.

Does anyone have a measurement for the inboard bolt placement?  Over 8.72-inches over from center and then what? With all the pictures, I was hoping a measurement had been done.  Thanks for the help!

Chris,  my 66 vert is different than shown on the installation instructions so it may differ from year to year, the inboard holes on My 66 is approx 5.813" from the center and 2.25" down from the edge of the support that attaches to the floor pan.

Dave,

Thanks very much for that, sounds like a good measurement to me. I realize there is a "bit of art" involved with this where early mustangs are involved...I was just trying to be correct as possible. Thanks again.

Scott,

I've got the dealer directions for a 65/66 coupe or convertible.  PM me with an e-mail address and I'll send it your way.

Same here, I'd like to see the instructions if you don't mind.  I've got a '65 convertible that I'd really like to put rear belts in.
