Topic: Clear glass car got tinted glass windshield ?

I have an order in with ECS that is why I am sorting this out.  I checked the rest of the glass on the car, and it is a mix of late 67 and early 68 glass.  I think I will go with an 8A date code on a clear windshield.

I'd love to see the Carlite logo on the ECS windshield.

Not sure how good this image is. It's a tinted one from ECS that I got last year. Don't have pics of the clear one yet and it's back in the box for now.

I don't believe the dark band at the top of the tinted windshields on the originals were that dark . I am glad at least that is available however.

These are difficult to photograph.
At least it tells me they are using  the stencil style and not the later full text style.

I think something changed in 68 as the "FM-M" number changed on the front. Perhaps a safety reg issue.

Not sure if a brand new one compared to a windshield that is faded and 50+ years old is a valid comparison. In any case ECS is the only vendor that I know of for a good reproduction windshield with a Carlite logo.

As far as validity you my want to compare a 50 + old rear fastback glass (all were tinted) to a modern repro one. Hardly a noticeable difference if at all. The rear fastback glass is arguably exposed to more direct sunlight then the windshield. The windshield should therefore compare at least similar. The band on the modern tinted repro is not a little but dramatically darker compared to a original. Yes the ECS is the best repro choice available and what I would choose.

You are correct full tinted glass if A/C was ordered.

67 and 68 the same is true. Not sure on earlier years. Having lived all over the country I can say non - tinted glass is rare to find. Seems like if the car was sold up north it was more likely. Anyone got a copy of Kevin Marti's book In Search of Mustangs?

I've never knowingly seen a reproduction fastback rear window glass Bob. Have worked on many of them over the years but never needed a new rear glass.

Marty: Normally, 68 Shelby's had all clear glass.  I had this wrong on my car and corrected it during the re-restoration.

My 68 has tinted glass and lists it on the Marti report. It is an a/c car though. Still has the 8B dated windshield in place.

Yes, all AC cars got tinted glass.

 If your glass date code is 8B what is your build date?
