Topic: Clear glass car got tinted glass windshield ?

Our 3-19-68 GT 350 did not have the optional tinted glass. It has a correct date coded Sun X tinted windshield which I think is original. Would that been how it should have come or should it have a clear windshield with the upper tint band?

I'm wondering if it says SUN VISOR or SUN VISOR and SUN-X on two lines.

On the build sheet the box for tinted glass is open. The side glass is clear BTW this is a convertible.

SUN VISOR says you have the band at the top.
SUN-X says it's tinted. Just like the tinted windshield in the referenced post and the side windows in there.

If you place a piece of white paper on the other side of the glass is it green at all?

By the way, from what little data I have or have seen, 68 started changing the "FM-M" suffix numbers which will also indicate if the window is tinted or not.
M07 is on my referenced window and M03 is on yours.
I don't have the codes to de-reference that and none of the online or Marcus' article reference that either.

The Marti Report does not mention tinted glass and as said above the build sheet does not have the tinted glass box checked.

I got so caught up n the sun-x part I didn't catch the date. These are very hard to read. Are you sure it's 5C and not 8C and if 8C makes sense to your car's date?

Well a tinted windshield is a great thing. I think the date code tells you it's not original. The Marti Report is confirmation.

It is a very light stamp. I will check it again tomorrow. Thanks for the help.

Ok I looked at it again and it is defiantly 5C. I am a bit embarrassed to say at first, I misread this 5C as the 5th of March.  You guys are right the windshield should be clear with the tinted sun visor. I am grateful to get this sorted out because I am ordering a new windshield and want it to be correct.

Marty: Normally, 68 Shelby's had all clear glass.  I had this wrong on my car and corrected it during the re-restoration.

Charles thanks for the tip. I got to thinking about it this afternoon and wondered how you could tell if windshield had the tint band or was all clear. I check our unrestored 68 HCS and it is all clear.  You would not happen to remember what your car's date code was? Our cars build dates were close if I remember correctly.

Just got an all clear reproduction from ECS. Ahead of schedule and perfect. Any date code you want.
