Wheelhouse holes
« on: July 06, 2022, 03:48:27 AM »
Found these two holes in the drives side rear wheel house. No rust present at all, both the same size and on a level plane. Nothing on the passenger side. Looked through the Osborne book and can't find any reference to something being there. Nothing was attached or clipped there.
Initially was going to fill them in but thought I'd best check here first.
Any idea what they may be?

Likely a previous owner added something, maybe an amp for car audio.  Possibly for a reverb unit.

Any other "clues"? Speaker mounts on the package tray? Door mounted speakers? Reverb?

No clues at all. For sure speakers were at one time mounted in the package tray but two sets of speaker wires were in the car, a set on each side. Neither were connected to a pair of speakers because the speakers weren?t there anymore.
Regardless, nothing was attached to these holes. Didn?t really pay much attention, or notice them, until I removed the wheelhouse sound deadening.
Interestingly what I did see in the Osborne book was a reference to Falcon trailer towing wiring attachment points. The illustration looks to be exactly where my holes are. Maybe an assembly line worker thought he was working on a Falcon!!

What Osborn book would that be.

Typically the trailer towing accessory as well as many others would have been installed at the dealership not the car assembly line.

Trailer towing lights wiring were a factory installed option in 1965 per the "1965 Mustang Electrical Assembly Manual", pages 36 and 37. The wiring went down the right side under the sill plate over the RH wheel well to a "dealer installed" extension, C5AB-19E510-A. No holes in the  RH wheel well. I counted at least six additional wiring assemblies to make this kluge work.

Jim is correct, pages 36/37 of the electrical assembly manual is what I was referencing. My recollection wasn't accurate however as when went back and looked at it last night I see the reference is to the RH side of the car. I must have been wishing for a solution that wasn't there.
As for the holes, I'll spot weld them shut.
Thanks,
Andy
