Taillight Bucket Paint Mark Daub
« on: July 03, 2022, 05:16:56 PM »
As earlier shown in another thread on 70 taillight buckets, there was a lighter blue daub applied to the trunk side of the rear taillight buckets as shown in the picture at the bottom of this post.  They were typically applied to the right side (as viewed from the trunk side installed) as shown but a few have been found in other locations but so far this has been a rarity. Upper right one in the picture is one such example

Jeff, is there any reasoning behind this mark?

Jeff, is there any reasoning behind this mark?

There must have been though Can't saw for certain what that reason was. Likely it identified Mustang taillight assembles from a different one possibly on the same line like Cougars at Deaarborn that year. One would think just the size and shape would be enough for a worker to pick one from another but maybe there were others that were closer in looks

Believe they would. Have examples of 70 NJ with the daub. Was applied by whomever  supplied the taillight assemblies

All 70 mustangs?

Based on the number we've seen and other people that have researched this on their own I think it would be safe to say that they originally did have the marking or were meant to have the marking.
