Oil sending unit
« on: June 19, 2022, 12:17:04 PM »
Trying to determine if this is the original oil pressure sending unit for June built 1969 GT500? In all the searches I find units without the black cover?

Originals are a gold finish and are 1/4" NPT on the end. The one in your picture has an adapter. Many things wrong with that compared to the original part.

That is a Stewart Warner sender like what is used with 68 Shelby . The 69/70 Shelby used a Ford sender that is bell shaped ,zink dichromate and the assemblyline units are identified with the FoMoCo trademark in block letters inside a rectangle not a oval.

Bill at Mansfield Mustang had a few NOS oil senders for your car left a few weeks ago. If I were you I would call him tomorrow.

Do the tachometer cars and non tach cars take the same sending unit? Bulb type correct?

If you have an oil gage you need the large sender. If you have an idiot light you need the small one with the green plastic.

Royce, I talked to Bill and he is not sure the bell type sending unit will work with the Shelby. He does have a couple of them C9ZZ-9278-A but wasn't sure it would be correct. Any input on this?

If you have a tach then you need the sender for an idiot light:

All 69/70 Shelby's have a oil pressure gauge and use the bell type. I am not sure why a tach car would need one sender over the other since the tach has nothing to do with oil pressure.   The sender has to do with if a oil pressure gauge is present which shows a range of pressure (bell shape) vs. no gauge and instead a idiot light which activates (button type) when at minimum oil pressure .

Bob I forgot this was a Shelby. If it were a normal Mustang then there would be no place for an oil pressure gage with a tach.

Sounds like Bill has you covered if you act fast enough.

This is kind of deja vu . Wasn't it me making a similar mistake of not looking at the category in regards to a Mach I a few days ago and you catching it?  ;D    It's all good.
