Valve Covers and Gaskets
« on: May 18, 2022, 06:37:25 AM »
289 A Code, SJ build, May 65. I have scoured for details, but can't seem to find a definitive answer. I have two passenger side valve covers (see photo). They have different tab locations for gaskets on the lower side. The top cover (darker gold) has the tabs more "centered" and the gasket I purchased from NPD fits perfectly. The lower one (lighter gold) has the tabs located "wider," i.e., closer to the ends and I'd have to trim the two tabs from the gaskets to make it fit. So, my question is: Is the top cover factory correct because the gasket fits and is presumably manufactured for a factory fit or is the lower cover factory correct and the gasket incorrect...meaning I need to find a gasket that fits (if possible)? Thanks in advance...

The one on the right is for later cars, 66/67 as it has the notch cut on the bottom edge to allow clearance of smog equipment.
