68 Shelby rear filler plate screws
« on: May 12, 2022, 03:30:40 AM »
Anyone have a picture of the correct screws for the metal filler plates? I had a mixture of screws so I ordered a set from amk and they are totally different. The amk is a hex head and what I Believe to be original to the car have a Philips head and are similar to the fiberglass tail lamp panel screws.

The hex head  self drilling screw is the most common.

Its possible there was a temporary substitution during production

I agree with Pete the hex head was most common. Here are the screws on 2646. I have only see the Philips head screw on 67 cars.

In your picture that's what the screws look like. I have a spare set of covers that I found in my garage from a GT/CS that came with the self tapping screw that Pete was talking about. Were both types of fasteners used in production?

The 68 GTCS was built in San Jose and the 68 Shelby's were built in Metuchen. Both plants did not always use the same hardware. As an example, the screws on the taillight panel on the GTCS are the same as the rear valance screws. The Shelby uses a washer head screw there.
