Carpet Screws
« on: April 26, 2022, 08:50:24 PM »
I'm trying to figure out where the screws go. My seat risers were so badly rotted (one was gone) I have nothing to look at for a reference. Looking at all the unrestored cars also yielded no results. Based on the fit of the carpets I would guess the screws would hold the forward part of the rear carpet bent over the front of the seat risers. Anybody have an original car they can look at?

Anyone with a 69 care to take a peek at their carpet?

I'm not aware of any screws holding the carpet in place.
A console has some, and the scuff plates in the door opening have several.
Where exactly do you think they should go?

I would check the assembly manual.

Unfortunately, there is no "1969 Mustang Interior Assembly Manual", but there is a 1970 version. Going on the basic premise that the 1969 and 1970 Mustang models were "similar", the 1970 Interior Manual (AM0032) shows no screws used except at the sill plates. I refer to pages 48, 49 and 50 (pg 50 for sill plates, the console is on page 51).
The interesting part is that floor mats are shown without "optional".

no screws used 69-70 carpet but depending on who made the carpet depends on how correct the carpet fits especially just in front of the seat platforms as i have seen  repo carpet that dont overlap the correct way between the front and rear carpet.

Where and how is the overlap supposed to be? Looks like the rear overlaps the front but exactly where that overlap is supposed to be is the question.

It may be the other way around. Fit the carpet to the rear of the interior tucked under the rear seat, and the excess simply overlaps the front section and then both are covered by the front seats.

My 70 signature car has a front carpet without the side "toe pad".
I think the carpet is original. It looks like crap -- does that count?

The rear overlaps the front with the serged edge by the sill all the way to the floor. The other side close to the tunnel  is higher. No screws.

It seems to me that the perfect place for an overlap would be just to the rear of the front seat track bolts. That would require the front to come up and over the front of the seat risers. My carpet (ACC mass backed from NPD) only comes up to the top of the front of the seat risers. My rear carpet piece comes about 1" to 1 1/2" forward of the seat riser with the rear of the piece back as far as the molded area will allow. This is where the screws would come in holding the rear forward section down to the front of the seat risers. I guess this carpet I have is misformed. The problem is that other than this issue the fit is really nice.
