Marti Report "Important Dates"
« on: April 25, 2022, 11:09:31 AM »
I've recently received a Marti report for one of my cars.  Car was built in Metuchen with "retail order type" shipped to dealer Norman Motor Co in College park , MD.

Order Received: 12/05/66
Car Serialized: 12/06/66
Bucked:          - - -
Scheduled for Build: 12/15/66
Actually Built: 12/20/66
Released: 12/20/66
Sold: 08/09/67

Was this 8 month time at the dealer lot sitting before sale?  I find this curious unless the car was used by an employee?

I've seen those sorts of durations sitting on lots in the early 70's and with some expensive models (later Shelbys), but I don't recall this sort of thing earlier than 1969.  What are the major vehicle options, and what was the cost?  Maybe it was just too rich for that area at the time?

'Retail' designates that it was customer ordered. Maybe the purchaser could not complete the deal when the car arrived.

Was this a highly optioned car?   Being possible an unpopular car for some reason might have played into it also after the original buyer got out of the sale somehow and it sat

Always a couple of extra possibilities but they tend to be out there a bit as far as how possible they might be

My car spent quite a long time on the lot as well before ultimately being sold.  Was ordered for dealer stock 8/25/66, released 10/5/66, but not sold until 3/9/67.  It's very much a Plain Jane low-option car, so I can see it being overlooked in favor of more desirable models on the lot.
VIN 7T03T121875 - 10/5/66 build.  Owned since 1973.

1967 Fastback C Code automatic.  Only options were fold down rear seat, radio and console.  Clearwater Aqua exterior and Aqua interior.  Maybe the color combo wasn't popular in 67

Always wondered if a dealership owner ordered a new car for personal use if it would be a retail order. If it was driven with a dealer plate and not registered before it was sold wouldn?t this make for a late sale date. I have an early marti report for a 1969 mustang GT convertible that was special ordered in pink. It?s a retail order but lists no sale date.

Meanwhile, across the country in a small desert town of Barstow California (midpoint between Los Angeles & Lost Wages Nv.), another 67 Mustang (with many factory options) spent a similar amount of time unsold.
It is always possible that a dealership owner might loan a car to an employee, family member or otherwise use it as a demo...The world may never know! I do know dealerships had an option to ORDER cars as a demo but I have no knowledge of why a dealership might NOT check that box on an order form if that was the intended purpose.
My example was essentially ordered and sold out in the middle of the Mojave Desert...100 or more miles away from any large city (in the mid-1960's). I cannot see a small town sitting on such a RETAIL order for over 10 months...but it happened frequently (apparently).
