Door bolt finishes March 66 San Jose car
« on: April 19, 2022, 03:04:48 AM »
Was the door glass installed after the doors were painted? If so, does that mean that the bolts seen on the outside of the door that hold the glass and regulator mechanisms in place are not painted in body color but are a natural finish?

I know this is a 66 topic, but the finishes for all of the fasteners and other parts for my 67 door took up two of those plastic flip top cases. I refinished all the fasteners in the door. The major color on the bolts used to hold the regulator and such were P&O.

I'm not suggesting that is 100% correct for 66, but the 67 assembly manual has a great breakdown of all the fasteners and finishes. I assume the 66 assembly manual does as well?

"Natural Finish" in the terms of non-painted. Its a left over term that MCA has used for decades to desribe just that - unpainted parts but it lacks details as to the correct/original finish of those non-painted items

Here are some examples of the retaining nuts and bolts for the regulator and other items that hold these parts to the door shell, from unrestored cars.

At the door end San Jose used both toothed and wavy washers depending on when the car was assembled

D6- If your wondering the latch and retaining screw were covered with spray grease years ago and have collected a layer of gunk and dust

Hope this helps
