Quarter window drip rail
« on: March 13, 2011, 12:24:22 PM »
Hi I'm new to the forum and have a question that I can not seem to find the answer to.I'm hoping I can get some help When I trial fit the boomerang on my 69 Mach there is a gap between the molding and the body approx 1/4 inch. Now the drip rail above the door comes down approx 2 or 3 inches around the boomerang then terminates.Am I missing part of the rail maybe it is from deterioration to the point that it was ground off totally by some previous owner? Or am I missing a component ?I have looked at pictures on the net and I see that some FB have the same as me after paint and there is a gap between the boomerang and the body and other pictures show it has been filled in maybe with seam sealer and painted. .Pictures would be a real asset as the car is ready for paint next week I really need to nail this down.
Thanks in advance

No if you are behind the car it would be the last two thirds of the boomerang. I have attached a picture of a car I found on the net looks like he might have the same issue

Dangstang, I think you are missing some metal. I've took several pics of our just completed Mach 1 in '09. If you look real close at the pics at the very bottom where the boomerang starts going almost vertical, that where my metal stops. I will post several pics for you to view......sorry about the dust, car's been under a cover.

Dam I think your right,I wonder if the drip rail has eroded then someone ground it off or maybe their is a separate piece altogether that is missing?
Thanks for the pics Im hoping someone else might be able to shed some light on this the car is about one week from paint.
Regards

Just at the chrome boomerang to drip rail splice is also a small upward metal extension. This is for the chrome angled splice cover.  Make sure you have it on both sides of the car.   If this is the only problem you have before paint your doing great.  Brian

Some one was nice enough to provide me with pictures of the mysterious piece.Below is his response

(You should have a flange that sticks out ~1/4 inch. I beleive some bolted on & others were welded, mine are welded. These are not a great pictures but will give you an idea)

Does any one know where this piece can be purchased?

I do not know of a reproduction... I would call as may mustang scrap yards as you can find.

Oh, no thanks needed. Both my kids used to say "your welcome I did that for ya". ;-)
