Sometimes I get in a hurry.
I searched on the part number and grabbed one of the first hits I got for the. Not sure why it found the 406/427 section before the 221,260,289 section but the BB and SB all used the same plug.
Here is the same part number from the correct 221,260,289 section.

Thank you Bob for the oil drain plug. What I think I've discovered is previously an oversized plug was installed in the pan. As a result the stock 1/2" plug will not tighten at all. I got a double oversized plug that I can torgue to 15 ft-lbs and does not appear to leak with a nylon gasket although I not 100% convinced it's going to work with any future oil changes.

Here's a picture of where we're at. Any suggestions? Should I paint the pan and bolt? Or just leave as is? By the way, thank you Bob for the plug.

What does everyone do in this case? I suspect I'm not the first with this problem. Do you change out the pan (Oh my!) or are there some other solutions?

PS Those streaks on the pan look like it may have been painted with some sort of fluid or issue going on  that made the streaks. Once again, should I do anything to the paint on the pan or just leave it as is?

With a double oversize you may have issues with things like the Time-Sert repair.

After looking for an NOS oil pan for my 67 SB I found that only the SD oil pan looks correct. The later (NOS and other replacement) pans are crimped in where the tie rods get close to the pan. Not correct. It is also difficult to find a stock pan that does not have major rust pits. Yours looks better than most I've seen.

You might end up removing the pan and having the plug area repaired.

I'm ok with repairing the pan if that's necessary.  Does the motor need to be removed to pull out the pan? Who does this sort of thing?

By the way what is the Time sert repair?

PS what do you think the streaking lines are from on the pan?

No, just the lower crossmember and unbolt the idler at the frame (if I remember right).

https://www.timesert.com/

The streaks are odd. Maybe not clean from the factory? ATF cooler line leaks at the radiator? ATF has solvent properties.

If the picture above represents the current condition (reply #16) of the under carriage I doubt that just repainting the pan will help in any way, given the grime, lack of details and such. Not trying to be cruel or harsh just relaying the facts. In Concours your being compared to like new or as new.

agree with jeff. imo you may want to rethink the class you will be in. it can be changed upon arrival.
