Remote Power Steering Reservoir
« on: March 12, 2011, 06:55:40 PM »
The original Ford installation sheet for the 64 1/2 remote power steering reservoir (when p/s was paired with A/C) shows a clamp being used to attach the pressure and return lines to the remote reservoir (shows numbers 97209 and 97245). What type of clamp is this?

I've seen corbin clamps used before, but these shown on the original installation sheet are not that type.

Chris, I don't think a corbin clamp would hold the pressure as I beleive it's just a spring clamp. I think Wittek made this type of clamp. AMK carries these:

Dave,

i looked at the AMK link, and the spring clamps do look like what's shown in the original Ford installation sheet, but the OEM group numbers (what AMK is calling a part number) do not match the group numbers on the installation sheet (i.e., 97245 and 97209).  I looked in my electronic copy of the Ford Master Parts Catalog (1975), and I could not find these parts.  Does anyone else have a reference for these parts? Maybe I just wasn't using the catalog correctly...it's a big catalog:).

I found the correct hose clamps for the remote power steering reservoir, they are shown in the picture below. They were made by Wittek but I do not believe they are reproduced anymore (not shown in the AMK catalog or major part vendor catalogs).  I found this rare Ford kit for power steering w/AC on eBay a couple of months ago. It has the unique power steering brackets in it for the 64 1/2 with AC, used to fit below the AC compressor and rotated forward to not hit the compressor bracket. I also have this same setup for the 63 Ford 260 with AC and power steering. Before I had the correct 64 1/2 power steering brackets, I tried to use the 64 1/2 AC compressor bracket with the 63 power steering brackets and the two wouldn't work together, had to put on the 63 AC compressor bracket...not an issue any longer.
