Front spindle backing plate gasket 6 cylinder
« on: March 11, 2022, 02:55:59 PM »
Looking at my assembly manual for my 66 cylinder car it shows a gasket in between the spindle and the backing plate. Searched NPD and Virginia Mustang and came up empty.  Any suggestion on where I might find them.

I've disassembled a few over the years and it was a white spongy gasket material.

Like a few things you are likely going to have to make some. Should not be difficult

Would cork be the correct material?

Have not seen cork... as mentioned in my reply above, I have seen white foam/spongy material on 6 cylinder backing plates.  It was only a dust/dirt seal.   V8's used a paper/fiber gasket, not sure why they were different.

Sounds like you could use that material I make the 65-66 door plug gaskets from.

Would that be a possibility Charles?

That would be reasonably close, originals I have seen were a little thicker, more 'spongy'.

Not sure it's a detail even the most seasoned concours judge would be looking for...
