Topic: Power steering hose question

I'm attempting to install two new hoses between the control valve and the cylinder. They're the two small hoses about 9.5 and 10 inches long.
The longer one D0ZA-8A717-AA fits, but I can't seem to get the short one to fit. The offending hose has eng. number D0ZA-8A714-AA stamped into it.
Do I have the right ones to fit a late June '70 Boss 302?
Is there some trick to installing them?

I have a set of NOS hoses which I haven't installed yet, so this got me curious.
They are 3A714-A and 3A717-B.

So I looked this up in the 70 Chassis ASM and found this pic.

I'll look up the 70 application in the MPC if no one else beats me to it.

I checked the MPC and they stipulate a length of 9 1/2 and 9 3/4 for the 3A714 and 3A717, respectively. This is regardless of part number (C6 or D0).
I can see that if one is too long it will make the other appear too short.

By the way, the part numbers are 3A714 and 3A717.

I think I found my problem.
The cylinder is too short. I laid my original next to the replacement, and the replacement is approximately 3/4 of an inch too short. Which is how much the hoses are short.
So I have two choices - find some slightly longer hoses, or a correct hydraulic cylinder.

1969 & 1970 should both be p/n C7ZZ 3A540-A. Unfortunately the MPC does not list the dimensions, so you would have to find that information elsewhere.

65/66 are shorter then 67-70 power steering rams. 71-73 is a different style all together. I think that there was a later 70's year Mustang ram that look the same but the wrong length. There are enough 67-70 versions out there that there should not be a problem sourcing one. There are many people who sell them used or rebuilt. Chokostang  http://www.chockostangclassicmustang.com/home.html  is one source NPD sells a new repro for 139.00  . West Coast Cougar is another. There are many alternatives. I would change out your short ram and have it be right for your application rather then trying to cobble some longer hoses IMO.

I thought this would be a good place to post about the two shortie hoses that go from the control valve to the ram. When Ford went from the C6OA single crimped hose to the  DOZA 3A 717 AA and DOZA 3A 714 AA shorty hoses  became double crimped. In 1970 government regulations made it mandatory that all of the PS hoses and service replacements for earlier cars had to be double crimped.  You can still frequently find NOS Ford made 70 DOZA shortie hoses because they were the last to be obsoleted. Not so with the C6OA shortie 67-69 single crimped hose. I don't study 70 and later models much because that is not my field of interest but come across the D0ZA shortie double crimped hoses frequently because they are commonly substituted and interchanged with the C6OA shortie hoses on 69 and older cars .I see them when judging in concours .That concours judging of the years and models I typically do is the main reason I know that story.  Blue Dot Industries manufactures a superior line of PS hoses with original details catering to the concours crowd.

This is the route I decided to take. I already had a pair of the good Blue Dot hoses, so I took Bob's advice and purchased a  cylinder. It fits perfectly, and, yes, the hoses fit, too.

So now I'm left with a freshly rebuilt, but slightly too short for a '70, power steering cylinder. Sounds like it may fit a '65-'66. How do I find out?
