Non folding rear seat dimension (width) needed
« on: February 25, 2022, 12:23:30 PM »
I don't have access to a 1970 NON-FOLDING fastback rear seats and need to verify the width of the rear seat back cushion.
My car was converted to a folding and I've converted it back to a non-folding.   With the seat installed I have a one inch gap on each side (40 inch seat in a 42 inch space).  Just want to first make sure I don't have a convertible seat back and before i start chasing any trim pieces (?).  No trim pieces on side shown in my assembly manual, etc.
If someone can measure theirs and advise.
Any help appreciated on the side trim pieces.
Thanks in advance,
Al

Same rear cushion was used fro both fold down and non-fold down applications

Convertible rear top cushion and frame is shaped completely different. Convertible is much taller of the two

Sorry don't have a 69-70 here at home this moment to measure

There is a big gap. My back seat is about 38 1/2" wide.

Thanks Carl -  and thanks for the pic.  On a Black interior, its not that noticeable, but on a white (or other light interior) it is.
Attached is a pic of my white interior (don't pay attention to the cap at top - it's just mocked up for the pic), but you can see how the back frame really stands out.  i "thought" there is a metal trim piece, with a pebble finish that filled this gap on the non-folding seat.  Maybe I'm wrong (not the first).
Appreciate anyone else weighing in.
Thanks in advance.

Correct no filler panel there. You'll find the gap even more noticeable on cars with fold down and the chrome trimmed edge visible in that gap

Just have to center the cushion and frame and make the best of it

Thanks Jeff
One last question; it appears that the visible part of the seat back (in the gap) was painted the interior color (especially the RH pic),  would you agree the frame running down the side is interior color, or leave SG Blk (the top trim, across the seat itself, is interior color)?

Based on the examples it appears that it depended on what color the interior was originally.

(the top trim, across the seat itself, is interior color)?

Top bar that goes from one side to the other between the package tray and the top seat cushion appears to typically match the interior color as well as the end caps. Package tray finished appears to depend on the interior color
